General Motors (GM) has announced its plans to transition to an all-electric vehicle lineup by 2035. The company aims to eliminate tailpipe emissions from its light-duty vehicles by 2035 and become carbon neutral by 2040.

GM’s commitment to electrification includes a $27 billion investment in electric and autonomous vehicles through 2025. The company plans to launch 30 new electric vehicles globally by 2025, with more than two-thirds available in North America.

The company’s Ultium battery technology will power many of these new electric vehicles, providing up to 400 miles of range on a single charge. GM also plans to work with suppliers to source 100% renewable energy for its operations by 2030.

“General Motors is joining governments and companies around the globe working to establish a safer, greener and better world,” said Mary Barra, GM Chairman and CEO. “We encourage others to follow suit and make a significant impact on our industry and on the economy as a whole.”

GM’s announcement comes as the automotive industry faces increasing pressure to reduce emissions and combat climate change. The company’s commitment to electrification is a significant step towards a more sustainable future for the automotive industry and the planet.
