Hyundai Mobis Unveils 'Moving Speaker' System for Enhanced In-car Audio Experience
New Technology Syncs Speaker Movement with Vehicle's Cockpit Display for Optimal Sound Quality
Hyundai Mobis has once again pushed the boundaries of automotive technology with the announcement of its latest innovation, the "Moving Speaker" system. Revealed on the Feb. 12, this cutting-edge system is designed to rotate in sync with the movement of the vehicle's cockpit display, providing optimal sound quality tailored to various driving situations. This development marks another milestone in Hyundai Mobis's quest to enhance in-car experiences through advanced technology.
The Moving Speaker system is intricately linked with Hyundai Mobis's variable rollable display, a technology the company pioneered two years ago. This 30-inch ultra-large screen adjusts its size according to the driving situation, offering users a seamless interface for navigation, music, videos, and other information. As the display operates, the speakers installed on the right, left, and center of the vehicle's front change angles and move, minimizing interference from surrounding sound waves to optimize sound quality.
In autonomous driving mode or when the vehicle is stationary, the variable display unfolds to its maximum size, allowing passengers to enjoy a wide array of music and video content. During this time, the Moving Speaker reclines to deliver sound towards the vehicle's windshield, ensuring that the expanded display does not obstruct sound delivery. Conversely, while driving, the display expands to only one-third of its size to prevent obstruction of the driver's forward view, displaying only essential driving information. In this scenario, the speakers rotate towards the driver's face to play audio, ensuring a vivid sound experience.
Hyundai Mobis explained, “As recent vehicle displays pursue premium features such as large screens, high definition, and slim designs, we have developed this display-synchronized Moving Speaker as a fusion of new technology that differentiates vehicle interior design.” This statement underscores the company's commitment to integrating premium features into its products, aligning with the growing consumer demand for enhanced in-car experiences.
The development of the Moving Speaker system is part of Hyundai Mobis's broader strategy to innovate within the automotive industry. Last month, the company showcased its "Holographic Windshield Transparent Display" technology at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, USA, further cementing its reputation as a leader in automotive display technology. Hyundai Mobis's lineup of premium products, including the world's first "Rollable Display," "Swivel Display," and "QL Display," highlights its dedication to pioneering new technologies.
In the realm of premium sound systems, Hyundai Mobis is collaborating with British Meridian to strengthen its global market strategy. This partnership is indicative of the company's approach to leveraging expertise from renowned audio technology companies to accelerate innovation and secure special vehicle sound technology.
Han Young-hoon, head of HMI Development at Hyundai Mobis, emphasized the company's forward-looking vision, stating, “We will target the market with future innovative fusion products to convey Hyundai Mobis's unique brand value in the mobility sector.” This statement reflects Hyundai Mobis's ambition to lead the market with products that blend cutting-edge technology with unique design
elements.
